After surviving launch, spaceflight, atmospheric reentry and an ocean landing, Ship 40 has completed another journey no Starship was expected to make. The 52-meter spacecraft has reached waters off Christmas Island following 24 days in the Indian Ocean. SpaceX’s recovery team guided the Flight 13 upper stage to the Australian territory after securing the vehicle and towing it through changing sea conditions. Ship 40 remains afloat on its side, visibly weathered but still largely intact. The company is sending engineers to examine the spacecraft in the more manageable waters near the island.
