A federal courtroom in Oakland has become the setting for the largest coordinated challenge yet to the machinery behind Facebook and Instagram. California, Colorado, Kentucky and New Jersey accuse Meta of building products that exploit young minds, collecting information from children under 13 without parental consent and presenting its platforms as safer than its own research justified. The four states are the first group from a coalition of 29 attorneys general that sued in 2023.
