Residents of North Carolina, Oklahoma, Utah and Virginia are expected to gain the ability to add a driver’s license or state identification card to Apple Wallet. The expansion continues a gradual transition from plastic credentials toward digital IDs stored on iPhone and Apple Watch. The four states are at different stages of preparation, so their launches may not arrive together. State motor vehicle agencies must connect their identity systems with Wallet, establish verification procedures and prepare businesses, airports and government offices to read the digital credentials.
