Shake It Off Most agree: The health claims about plates have proliferated faster than the actual research. THE CLAIM: They increase circulation and lymphatic drainage. SCIENCE SAYS: Yes—and no. When you stand on a vibration plate, your muscles spring into action to keep you stable and upright—and activating muscle is a great way to increase blood flow. So, vibration plates do boost blood flow, says Rachelle Reed, PhD, an exercise physiologist and head of scientific research and communication at Therabody. There is even a bit of research here: A three-minute session of whole-body vibration (WBV)—the scientific term for using a vibration plate—was found to "significantly enhance" blood flow to the leg muscles, according to one small study. …
