The mediating monomers not only enabled the rapid assembly of colloidal particles but also polymerized within the matrix to form a dual network, enhancing the mechanical robustness of the CPC films. This process follows a broadly applicable physical pathway underpinned by supramolecular chemical design for nonequilibrium assembly (fig. S41). DEGDMA, containing two double bonds, acts as a covalent cross-linking agent, while the carbonyl and hydroxyl groups of 4-HBA and DEGDMA maintain their hydrogen bonds, yielding a noncovalent network within the shell. Compared with a single covalent cross-linked network (fig. S42), hydrogen bonds serve as sacrificial bonds (Fig. 3A, i), improving the elasticity and toughness of the CPC films (fig. S43). …
