The complexity of the human foraging niche poses distinctive challenges that likely contributed to the evolution of memory, navigational abilities, and social learning skills. Humans have mastered diverse foraging styles in extreme habitats, from the hot tropics to the cold Arctic, ranging from tuber digging, to mushroom and berry picking, to hunting and fishing. In most of these examples, humans forage together with others. …
