General Motors and LG Energy Solution are preparing their battery plant in Spring Hill, Tennessee, to manufacture a new generation of cells intended to make future electric vehicles less expensive to build. The project brings lithium manganese-rich, or LMR, battery technology closer to industrial production, with a particular role envisioned for electric trucks and large SUVs. Announced on September 29, the upgrade will take place at Ultium Cells, the companies’ battery manufacturing joint venture. Work is scheduled to begin later in 2026, with facility modifications expected to finish in 2028. The expansion is projected to add 500 jobs to a plant that currently employs approximately 1,200 people. …
