NASA is committing another $359 million to Starliner upgrades and rocket certification work, giving Boeing’s troubled spacecraft a renewed path toward carrying astronauts. The next flight will carry cargo without a crew and could launch in December 2026 or January 2027. The schedule announced September 28 separates that engineering mission from the return of astronauts, now planned for 2028. December is the earliest opportunity under discussion, rather than a confirmed launch date. For NASA, the decision preserves an investment in a second American crew transportation system. For Boeing, it brings additional resources alongside a demanding requirement: demonstrate that the failures encountered during Starliner’s first crewed flight have been understood and corrected. …
