Tim Curry knows you’re watching. From the moment Dr Frank-N-Furter struts out of the elevator cage in The Rocky Horror Picture Show, he practically devours the camera: a raised eyebrow, a pout of his wine-red lips, a grin of can-you-believe-this glee. His audience isn’t really Brad and Janet, the white-bread couple stranded in his castle — it’s you, the viewer, he wants to ravish. When his old friend Richard O’Brien gave him the script for his B-movie-inspired rock musical, Curry thought, “Boy, if this works, it’s going to be a smash,” he recalled in 1992.
