Lithium Coulombic efficiency (Li CE), which measures the efficiency of lithium plating and stripping, generally remains below 99.8%. More importantly, it does not reliably predict cell lifetime or guide electrolyte design. Unlike the relatively stable solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) on graphite in LIBs, the SEI on lithium metal continuously fractures and reforms during cycling, consuming both active lithium and electrolytes. …
