Printmaking, though, was different. I loved that it was unapologetically handmade. I loved the simplicity of black ink on white paper and how texture could be just as powerful as color. Carving felt physical and satisfying, and because the artwork began by hand but could later be digitized, it fit beautifully with the world of licensing I was just beginning to explore. People often ask if it’s a real place. The answer is yes... and no. Mount Rainier has always lived in my mind because, growing up in the Pacific Northwest, it was simply part of life.
