For part of Thursday, September 3, switching to another AI assistant was no guarantee of getting back to work. ChatGPT and Claude experienced confirmed service disruptions while complaints also rose for Grok and Gemini, leaving several familiar alternatives unreliable during the same morning. Downdetector recorded more than 37,000 reports concerning OpenAI during the disruption. Claude attracted roughly 1,300 reports at its peak, Grok approached 1,400, and Gemini drew about 500. These were reports submitted to an outage-tracking service, not a verified count of everyone affected.
