The AI Revival Of Three Mile Island The infamous US nuclear plant is poised for a comeback, as Microsoft’s vast power demands bring together two transformative—and risky—technologies By Drake Bennett and Will Wade The control room at the Three Mile Island nuclear plant today “Attention for update!” Tom Carroll calls out. “Ready!” the half-dozen other people in the room respond. They stop what they’re doing, raise a hand and wait. The deal will see the Pennsylvania plant restart under a new and baggage-free name: the Crane Clean Energy Center. The agreement commits Microsoft to buying all the electricity produced by the site’s remaining functional 835-megawatt reactor for 20 years. That’s enough megawatts to power a midsize American city. …
