Quite a lot, it turns out, as pharmaceutical nanoscientist Ijeoma Uchegbu makes clear in her new book, Chain Reaction. For a narrative focused on day-to-day life, there is re- markably little that is commonplace about Chain Reaction—it is unlike any other book on this sub- ject. In this review, I’ve tried to elucidate the story’s special attributes without deconstructing them, because—like the chemistry it explores—it really is more than the sum of its parts.
