Chris: In a desperate attempt to crowbar some Christmas content into the magazine, I have decided to focus this month on the great writer-producer-director, John Hughes. Or should I say, John Ho-ho-hoghes? Because he was responsible as a writer for some of the most beloved Christmas movies of all time. Helen: He’s really important that way. I think that Home Alone is a formative Christmas movie for many people, before they’ve seen Die Hard. National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation is easily the best of that franchise, and his rewrite of Miracle On 34th Street is one of those remakes that stands up next to the original.
