Drugs that inhibit KRAS signaling delay the development of pancreatic cancer in mice Benjamin G. Neel and Anirban Maitra Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) has a 5-year survival rate of 12% and is expected to become the second-most-common cause of cancer-related death within the next decade (1). The dismal prognosis of PDAC reflects the absent, vague, or nonspecific symptoms of early disease as well as the lack of a screening technique, such as colonoscopy or mammography, that can be used for early detection at the population-wide level. Certain germline mutations or family history of the disease can increase the lifetime risk of developing PDAC. In such individuals, long-term surveillance and surgical removal of advanced premalignant lesions can be lifesaving (2). …
