Exocytosis exposes Src at the outer surface of cancer cells, poised for therapeutic targeting Alexander Pfannenstein and Tobias Meyer T he cellular kinase Src (or c-Src) plays a role in adhesion, motility, and proliferation. In cancers, its expression and activity are commonly increased, underscoring its pivotal role in sustaining malignant phenotypes across tumor types (1). On page 1124 of this issue, Delaveris et al. (2) report that many cancer cells with high Src expression also produce extracellular Src (e-Src) that is delivered to the extracellular-facing cell surface. Moreover, this exposed e-Src was effectively targeted by immunotherapy in preclinical tumor models. …
