Joe Carnahan’s new movie, The Rip, is a high-octane action-thriller in which a group of Miami cops discover $20 million of cartel cash during a routine house search (or rip), turning them into sitting ducks. The unit is led by Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, who not only produced it through their company Artists Equity, but play Dane and JD, two old friends who soon find their relationship under great strain as cartel members and possibly corrupt cops come knocking. It’s not so much Good Will Hunting, more ‘Good Will Hunted’. And while an Affleck-Damon on-screen reunion isn’t as rare as it once was, this one could be something special. “The meta is, this is a 40-year friendship,” says Carnahan. …
