During immune responses, DCs undergo maturation, during which they up-regulate the chemokine receptor CCR7 and migrate to regional lymph nodes, where they can initiate pathogen-specific T cell responses. In the absence of infection, DCs undergo pathogen-independent (homeostatic) maturation, which also leads to their CCR7-dependent migration to lymph nodes. …
