This week, the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS, the publisher of Science) convenes its annual meeting in Phoenix, Arizona. The meeting’s theme, “Science at Scale,” stands in stark contrast to the diminishing of science by the current US federal administration. Amid political attempts to weaken science, this gathering of people from academia, industry, government, business, medicine, law, ethics, and other sectors is an opportunity to look to the future. Over the past year, actions in Washington, DC, have jarred science from its path toward breakthrough discoveries and innovations that touch every part of life. …
