The next iPad mini could remove one of the oldest cautions attached to the tablet: keep it away from water. A redesigned model is expected by October with a casing engineered to resist liquid intrusion, bringing protection long available on the iPhone but absent from every iPad generation. The change would suit the mini better than any other model in the range. Its compact dimensions invite it into kitchens, cafés, workshops, airplanes and bedside routines, places where a tipped glass or wet countertop can become an expensive accident.
