Morena Makhoana can see Cape Town’s spectacular landmark, Table Mountain, from the grounds of Biovac, the vaccine manufacturer he runs here. “When you’re stressed and you don’t know what to do, you just look there,” Makhoana says. “It keeps us a little bit sane.” He has just stepped out of a Biovac building constructed during the COVID-19 pandemic to hold the “freezer farm,” which today symbolizes one of the company’s—and one of the African continent’s—great disappointments. …
