美国研究人员正在探索能否把遍布全美的油气井改造成关键矿产的矿井,用工程流体从压裂过的地下岩层中溶解并提取锂、钒、钛等金属。太平洋西北国家实验室和俄克拉何马大学的团队估算,若开采5%的储层体积并回收其中1%的矿物,油井最多可产出5亿吨关键矿产。该团队将获得美国能源部“未来矿山”计划为期两年的资助,从本月起推进这项被称为“地下精准采矿”的研究。

Researchers are exploring whether the vast network of oil and gas wells drilled across the United States can be repurposed to extract critical minerals from the rock formations below—elements the U.S. needs for solar cells and electric vehicles and, for now, has to import from China and other countries. The idea builds on fracking: pumping huge volumes of fluid into underground rock layers to fracture them and bring oil, gas, and wastewater back to the surface. …
