We concluded that platelets were partially activated in the spleen, but this did not lead to permanent adhesion; rather, it allowed for recirculation. We did not observe overt differences in the phenotype, activation, adhesion, and clot formation ability in steady state of peripheral blood platelets from splenectomized mice (fig. S5, B to F, and fig. S6). Moreover, we observed normalization of platelet turnover and lifespan in the chronic phase after splenectomy (fig. S6, A and B).
