My day-to-day life at home as a young girl was challenging at times. My mother struggled with mental illness and wasn’t fully able to care for me. It was an unstable and confusing environment. I realize that drawing probably provided a safe, non-verbal outlet for my emotions, allowing me to process sadness and anger. Even now, my art serves as a powerful tool that regulates my emotions. It was when I started screen printing that I immediately felt a strong connection. I could draw my motifs and then actually print them on fabric! I could create fabric prints just like all those textile companies I grew up with back home in Scandinavia. Perhaps I could be a textile designer? …
