Some studies suggest they also have a greater risk of metabolic, immune, and even neurodevelopmental disorders, and one reason may be lack of exposure to vaginal microbes. In 2016, scientists proposed a simple fix: applying the mother’s vaginal fluid to the skin, mouth, and nose of C-section babies to mimic the bacterial exposures seen with vaginal birth. …
