Blue Ghost data suggest NASA’s growing commercial Moon program can deliver results Just over 1 year ago, the Blue Ghost robotic lander, built by Firefly Aerospace, sent back the last bits of data from its 2-week life on the Moon. Three other attempts to land commercial landers had foundered, making the $150 million mission the first fully successful delivery financed by NASA’s multibillion-dollar Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS) program, which funds companies to ferry cargo and science experiments to the lunar surface, faster and more cheaply than NASA itself can. For many planetary scientists, the true test of CLPS wasn’t just landing missions safely; it was delivering meaningful data from regions beyond the Apollo landing sites. …
