Hindawi le August 2025, a paper in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) provided a detailed analysis of the growing problem of large networks of individuals and entities cooperating for financial gain and career advance- ment to contaminate the scientific literature with fraudulent research (Richardson et al. 2025). The multidisciplinary team of authors affiliated with Northwestern University and the University of Sydney re- ported that some journal editors made problematic decisions significantly more frequently than would be expected by chance alone.
