U.S. automakers are increasingly redirecting capital and manufacturing capacity toward energy storage, entering a business where Tesla already has a long operational lead. The shift comes as growth in electric vehicle adoption has slowed from earlier projections, leaving battery factories built for EVs underutilized and prompting manufacturers to search for alternative demand for large-scale battery production.
