We first investigated the macroscopic dynamics of Venus flytrap closure by tracking the three-dimensional shape of the trap using a stereoscopic setup [see (34)]. In intact traps (Fig. 1A and movie S1), closure begins with a slow acceleration phase, which varies across traps (fig. S2A), fol- lowed by a rapid curvature reversal of the lobes from convex to concave, yielding a typical motion timescale τ = 0.21 ± 0.08 s and a maximum angular velocity of (dθ∕dt)max = 1.88 ± 0.65 rad s−1, where θ is the trap’s margin angle and t the time (Fig. 1, D and G, and fig.
