Climate change Heat rising dangerously As Europe and North America swelter, Jacklin Kwan and Alec Luhn take a look at the data to see how heatwaves have changed over the past 50 years making heatwaves hotter, more frequent and longer-lasting because it is raising background temperatures. Hot seasons are also starting earlier and heat stress at night is getting more severe. according to an estimate calculated by Clair Barnes at Imperial College London and her colleagues. The team estimates that more than 40 per cent of these deaths were as a result of climate change. A HEATWAVE in May set monthly temperature records across Europe. A heatwave in June became the hottest ever observed in western Europe. …
