“The skeptical movement is dead,” someone told me sometime in the past ten years. I was surprised, as I think most skeptics would be. What they were going on, I think, is that some of the United Kingdom's many Skeptics in the Pub meetings had ended, and the publicity that attended Simon Singh’s 2009-2010 trial and appeal had waned. That case, a libel action brought by the British Chiropractic Association, ended with a judge’s ruling that said everything a skeptic could want in praise of the public interest in science. This was well before the COVID-19 pandemic, which was as disruptive to skeptical meetings as it was to everything else. I’m not sure what I said in response. …
