Foy first read H Is For Hawk, non-binary writer and naturalist Helen Macdonald's memoir about adopting a hawk after losing their father, when producer Dede Gardner mentioned it as they worked on Sarah Polley’s 2022 drama Women Talking. “Like most people, I had a very strong connection to it,” Foy tells Empire. “It’s poetic and beautifully written, but there’s a humanity to it which is able to cut through a lot of extraneous crap, and be honest and open.” The book became an important tool for Foy throughout the project, especially when getting into more challenging states of mind. “I’d revisit certain things,” she recalls. …
