In the days after it happened, it was anyone’s guess if Ian Huntley would survive the latest attack behind bars. And on 7 March, it was announced he had succumbed to his injuries. The 52-year-old former caretaker, who was serving life for the murders of schoolgirls Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman, was admitted to hospital suffering significant head trauma. He was on life support for over a week, but it was switched off on the evening of Friday 6 March. Huntley later died with his mother by his side. One source said, ‘No one who has dealt with him is shedding a tear.’ …
