t’s not often a television programme effects real social change, but some succeed. In 2024, Mr Bates Vs The Post Office dramatised one of the greatest miscarriages of justice in UK history, which saw falsely accused subpostmasters lose their jobs, homes, freedom and even their lives. Its impact was enormous, dragging the scandal into the light and leading to a renewed fight for justice. And now, powerful ITV drama Believe Me is highlighting the ordeal of women who reported sexual assaults by John Worboys, known as the ‘Black Cab Rapist’. He was convicted of sex offences and drugging charges against 19 women, although his known victims numbered 100, and it’s believed there are many more. …
