A new analysis from Federal Reserve Bank of New York suggests that remote work—not artificial intelligence—is playing a significant role in the recent rise in unemployment among young college graduates. The findings challenge a widely discussed narrative that AI is already displacing entry-level jobs at scale. Unemployment among recent graduates has climbed to 5.6%, up from 3.6% in 2019, with researchers attributing much of that increase to structural changes in how companies hire and train early-career workers.
