China has approved what officials describe as the world’s first commercial invasive brain- computer interface, moving a coin-sized brain implant into the market before competitors such as Elon Musk’s Neuralink. The device, known as NEO, is designed to help people with paralysis regain limited hand movement through signals translated from the brain to an external robotic glove. The approval from China’s National Medical Products Administration gives Shanghai-based Neuracle Technology and Tsinghua University a lead in one of the most closely watched areas of medical technology.
