Seventy-five years ago, the accidental emergence of a bis-cyclopentadienyl iron complex with chemical formula [C10H10Fe] opened a new era in tran- sition metal chemistry (1). The “sandwich” structure of the 18-electron complex, widely known as “ferrocene” (I; Fig. 1) (2–4), spurred the development of an array of metallocenes and related systems with ap- plications in diverse areas (5–10). Naturally, a search for similar struc- tures with other elements followed, with limited success (11, 12). The only homoleptic sandwich complex comprising cyclo-P5 rings, the anionic complex [Ti(η5-P5)2]2− (II), is a 16e− complex (11). …
