Kryptos Sculpture Solution Sells for Nearly $1 Million. On November 20, 2025, the full solution to the code hidden in the Kryptos sculpture sold for $962,500. For decades, the sculpture has spurred intrigue related to cryptography, the practices of writing and solving secret codes. Dedicated in 1990 at the CIA headquarters in Virginia, three of four coded messages have since been deciphered; however, the solution for the fourth message has eluded amateur and professional cryptographers alike. At eighty, sculptor Jim Sanborn decided it was time for someone else to learn the secret, and an anonymous bidder paid a hefty sum for the privilege.
