“I BET I can guess it before you show it to me,” says Mary Steenburgen. Empire is taking the 73-year-old actor through the defining images of her career, and we’ve just prefaced one with, “This one should be more appreciated.” It’s gonzo 1979 thriller Time After Time, in which H.G. Wells and Jack The Ripper do battle in modern-day San Francisco. “That’s not what I thought,” she laughs on seeing it, admitting she had expected 1994’s Clifford, in which she plays mom to Martin Short’s ten-year-old boy.
