As with their extraordinary film I Saw The TV Glow, writer-director Jane Schoenbrun wears their influences on their sleeve, from Friday The 13th to Videodrome via Mulholland Drive and Sunset Boulevard. But this time there’s more of a playfulness, as if, via Einbender’s obsessive cinephile Kris, Schoenbrun is teasing the audience for knowing what a split diopter looks like and smugly pointing it out to their movie-going companion (if you know, you know).
