Why political science can’t grasp Trumpism By Jason Blakely I n August 2020, amid COVID-19 lockdowns, George Floyd protests, and conspiracy theories that the entire U.S. electoral system was a sham, the University of Chicago po- litical scientist John Mark Hansen took to socially distanced videocon- ferencing to deliver a public lecture entitled “American Politics Before and After Trump.” His mood was weirdly serene.
