Baenziger* INTRODUCTION: Communication at synapses is facilitated by postsynaptic receptors, which convert a chemical signal into an electrical response. For ligand- gated ion channels, such as the muscle- type nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR), agonist binding triggers rapid transitions from an apo resting state through one or more intermediate primed states to a short- lived open- pore conformation, with these transitions ultimately shaping the postsynaptic response. …
